Crying Wolf by Hexabeast Crying Wolf by Hexabeast
A wolf howling over the barren landscape he is forced to call home, with markings that resemble tears on his face.

From '07, a Christmas gift for my grandma that I spent several hours on. Color was added, but I prefer this version.

8x10 Scratchboard

EDIT: Aahhhhh completely forgot to mention that I used a reference for this. D8 For the fur/highlights/muzzle 'cause I fail'd at howls back in '07.

EDIT 2: Hay guys, if you favorite this, PLEASE comment. Seriously, this ratio is borderline ridiculous and I would like to know what everyone thinks about the piece.

I can't believe a JD King made a god-awful "documentary" called "Crying Wolf" back in 2011. It was blatantly anti-wolf and the research was dubious. He essentially called for jihad on wolves (and conservationists) and reduce them to an ecologically insignificant role. It should really be called "Crying Shame". I don't think this film is available to watch online for free now, but new research from Yellowstone pretty much quashed the lies perpetrated by this film.

Oh btw your sketch looks good enough to qualify for a shirt print.

This is absolutely beautiful. The detail in the fur is amazing and the shading is perfect. It has so much emotion and I love it with a passion.

I was wondering if I could use this in my Art class?

Holy crap. o.o
How does this only have three comments and 32 favorites? *stumped*

I absolutely love the realism, and especially the symbolism. It looks like it took a lot of time to execute. ...Especially with a scratchboard; no erasing. >.< That's always been an issue for me. XD

Anyway, I really love it... a lot. o.o Definitely a :+fav:!

Long depends on folks' definition. XD

On Christmas Eve I actually sat, hunched over this scratchboard piece from 7PM to 3 AM working on it nonstop. Then I paused long enough to snap about three pictures before I went and added color. :3

Thanks, though. :3 I prefer the comments to the favorites anyday (Even though I'm guilty of not commenting a lot. XD)

That's long to me. o.o
That's really sad though... This really does need more recognition. With all the time you've spent on it, it seems unfair to not get the appropriate attention it (and you) deserves. =(
I is glad *kesame alerted people to you. =D

Yeah, I prefer to leave either just a comment, or both a comment and fav. I feel people should know why I faved them. X3 ...Though on lazy days, I too am guilty. ><;
